Discovering PK1

Your child's development journey from 12-18 months

As your child steps into the dynamic age of 12 to 18 months, it’s an exciting time filled with significant growth and discovery! At Pacesetter Academy, we are committed to supporting your little one’s development through this crucial phase with our tailored activities and nurturing environment. Here’s what you can expect in terms of development and how we help foster these advancements in your child.

Physical Development

During this stage, your child will make great strides in physical development. You can expect them to start walking more confidently, and some may even begin to run. Fine motor skills also improve, allowing them to manipulate smaller objects, use simple tools, and enjoy activities like turning pages in a book or stacking blocks.

At PA:

  • Active Play: We encourage gross motor skills with plenty of time for walking, climbing, and safe, supervised running in our play areas.
  • Fine Motor Fun: Activities are designed to refine fine motor skills, such as puzzles, arts and crafts, and shape sorting toys, which also enhance hand-eye coordination.

Cognitive Development

This period is marked by rapid cognitive development. Your child will begin to understand simple instructions, recognize names of familiar people and objects, and express curiosity about the world around them.

At PA:

  • Explorative Learning: We provide a variety of sensory and explorative play opportunities to satisfy their curiosity and enhance cognitive skills.
  • Structured Activities: Simple instructions during activities help toddlers begin to follow commands and understand cause and effect.

Language Development

Expect a burst in language skills, as your child progresses from babbling to forming simple words and phrases. They might start to mimic words and express their needs verbally, building up their vocabulary every day.

At PA:

  • Language-Rich Environment: Our educators engage with children throughout the day in conversations and storytelling to model proper speech and expand vocabulary.
  • Interactive Reading Sessions: Frequent story times foster an early love for reading and stimulate language acquisition.

Social and Emotional Development

At this age, children begin to show more independence, may have preferences, and can show affection. They start to play simple games with others, learn to share, and may also experience separation anxiety.

At PA:

  • Social Skills: We promote cooperative play through activities that require taking turns and sharing.
  • Emotional Support: Our nurturing staff are trained to help children manage emotions and ease separation anxiety with comforting routines and reassurance.

Eating and Sleeping Routines

Your child’s eating habits will mature as they begin to eat more solid foods and enjoy a varied diet. Sleep patterns tend to become more regular, with naps decreasing in frequency but increasing in duration.

At PA:

  • Nutritious Meals: We offer balanced, age-appropriate meals and snacks that appeal to their developing taste buds and support overall health.
  • Restful Environment: Our quiet and comfy nap areas are perfect for ensuring your child gets the rest they need during this stage of intense growth.

Health and Safety

The well-being of your child is our utmost priority. Regular health checks, up-to-date immunizations, and strict cleanliness protocols are in place to keep your child healthy and safe.

At PA:
